Recently I have been trying to look at new blogs and excite myself with the technology that is bringing people together. At least that’s what I would hope it would do. I have always had a website in one form or another since high school. None have been quite as fulfilling as this, where I feel part of some kind of community and the people who read actually care. I am starting this column in effort to showcase the bogs that i think are worth viewing. Today I looked up Poetry because that’s who I am, what better way to connect with people. I found 3by3by3.

What I like about this site was the interaction that it had with its audience. The clever “recipe” is that you look up google news and pick three. Use the words within the first few paragraphs of each and with these words you create a poem that has 3 stanzas with 3 lines each and no more than 60 characters per line. They also suggest that you use words from each story for the title. It is not only making poetry interactive, but letting people submit their work. It’s also relevant; you have to send your poem in the day that the stories were published. It’s also a cool exercise in case you don’t finish the poem that day or if you’re shy.

3by3by3 also offers a theme of the day list including Wee Sestina Wednesday (of course my favorite) and the relaxed Flow Friday. The blog was created at a free service “by Lance Newman on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, the birthday of the San Diego Union-Tribune–138 years of logrolling, pablum, and vigilante screeds”. My hat is off to Mr. Newman. I may submit one sometime. Until then I’ll write them as exercises and stick to my own work.
